Everyday life is often made of work, emergencies, endless activities to be completed.
And the more difficult days are faced, the more time seems to pass quickly without realizing it. A hectic life, without the right number of pauses, can cause stress : there are several remedies to counter it, but a scientific study, has found that just a few minutes a day to devote to themselves and in complete solitude, to put a brake the obnoxious stress .
The research, which was conducted by a team of American psychologists from the University of Rochester, New York, was then published in the journal “Personality and Social Psycology Bulletin”. The experts asked 114 individuals to sit alone for 15 minutes, after sustaining a conversation. The participants then filled out questionnaires with specific questions inside and what emerged was truly amazing. Those who had been alone for a quarter of an hour had experienced less negative emotions such as anxiety, restlessness, and irritability than those who had not benefited from the few, but apparently the determining minutes of solitude.
A second test was conducted on more than 100 people: the results obtained showed that making the difference in those 15 minutes was not the activity carried out – reading a book, listening to music, wandering with the mind – but the simple condition of stay for a few minutes alone. The feeling of well – being was there, even if, after fifteen minutes, some individuals started to feel a bit of loneliness, but in the negative sense of the term.
A third test , this time with 173 participants, showed that the feeling of peace and tranquility is even just spending 15 minutes a day for a week, without having to do it the following week.
And all the studies that indicate how important social relationships are to promote psychological well-being , do they say false? Absolutely not. In this case, what the research wants to demonstrate, considering the results obtained, is that yes, 15 minutes a day alone reduce stress , but we must not exaggerate . If you begin to feel a negative feeling and loneliness it is good to resume normal activities and social relationships. Yes , yes , but for a short time and as long as the individual is free to choose .
What really is good for our body is the ability to choose when and how to be alone and a few minutes a day can really make a difference, reducing stress .
